The Nuremberg Trials
The Nuremberg Trials were one of the most significant events in the history of the 20th century and lasted 10 months and 10 days. In 218 working days, the Court held 403 public meetings. The hearing was translated into four languages. The court heard the testimony of 240 witnesses and examined 300,000 sworn statements. The Prosecutor's Office submitted 2,630 documents, and the defense submitted 2,700. The defendants had 27 lawyers, 54 assistants and 67 secretaries at their disposal. The minutes of the court session contained 4,000,000 words and covered 16,000 pages. 5,000,000 sheets of paper with a total weight of more than 20 tons were used to reproduce documents in four languages used by the Court. 7000 gramophone records and 27 kilometers of audio cassettes were used to record the trial. The trial began on November 20, 1945, at 10:00 a.m. The tribunal consisted of representatives of the four victorious powers: Great Britain - Lord Jeffrey Lawrence (Chairman), USA - Francis Biddle, USSR - Major General Iola T. Nikitchenko, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court of the USSR, France - Donnedieu de Vabre. The main accusers in the trial were: H. Shawcross (Great Britain), A. Champetier de Rib (France), R. H. Jackson (USA), R. A. Rudenko (USSR).
Nuremberg was not chosen as the place of trial by chance. It was there that NSDAP leaders met in the 1930s, where Hitler's rise to power was celebrated in 1933, and it was there that the Nuremberg Laws were passed in 1935, depriving German Jews of civil rights. The annual celebrations of the Wehrmacht were also held here. The Palace of Justice was chosen as the trial venue because it was the least damaged in the city. On October 6, 1945, the indictment against 21 Nazi dignitaries was published. Numbering about 25 thousand people. In short, the document is divided into four main points corresponding to the charges. These were: conspiracy to commit the crimes specified in paragraphs 2, 3 and 4 of the indictment, crimes against peace, i.e. planning. Before the trial began, the head of the German Labor Front, Robert Ley, hanged himself.
Silesians in the Wehrmacht
The reorganization did not take place over centuries or decades, but every few years. Between 1900 and 1945, a resident of Upper Silesia, born in the Austrian Empire or the Kingdom of Prussia, ended up in the Czechoslovak Republic, the Republic of Poland and the democratic "Weimar" Republic after 1918. Then he could have lived in the Nazi Third Reich or in Poland, so that after 1945 all those who stayed here would end up within the borders of the new, "people's" Poland, and some again in Czechoslovakia. You could get lost... In each of these countries, local residents lost their citizenship or regained it, were repeatedly accused of treason for this reason, or received rehabilitation in the form of alms or amnesty for actions that were not committed by free choice. 1xBit provides new users with an enormous crypto welcome package of up to 7 Bitcoin plus 250 free spins across their first four deposits.
